What began as a portrait session in Peter Cvik’s studio turned into nearly four hours of conversation about art, time, perception, and the world we live in today.
I wanted to understand the stories behind his paintings, his creative process, and the ideas that shape his work. Peter, in turn, was curious about my journey as a photographer and the way I see people through the lens. What started as an interview became a genuine exchange of thoughts and experiences.

Peter Cvik is among the most internationally recognized contemporary painters from Slovakia. Educated at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, his artistic language has been shaped by both his academic background and his engagement with the wider European art scene, including his connection to Leipzig. His works move between memory and reality, landscape and imagination, creating visual spaces that invite reflection and contemplation.
Yet that afternoon was not about exhibitions, awards, or the growing international reputation of an artist whose work is collected far beyond his home country. It was about the person behind the paintings.
Surrounded by canvases, colors, and unfinished ideas, we shared an honest conversation about creativity, society, and the passing of time. It was a meeting of equals- open, thoughtful, and deeply enriching.
These portraits capture Peter Cvik the artist. For me, they also tell the story of a remarkable encounter, one that reminded me that art is ultimately about human connection.
